Portrait of Waiting
My last creative writing club prompt was to write a response to a work of our choice. I chose Kris Orlowski’s song “Waiting”. Every time I hear this song I visualize a distinct image… So here it is.
Portrait of Waiting
He clings to himself. Lying still in his small wooden boat.
Alone. Cold.
Tears flow from his tired eyes. Hair damp from the rain.
Surrounded by a silent, gray body of water. Covered by a blanket of fog.
Alone. Cold.
Knees against his chest. Hands shaking.
Suddenly overwhelmed with the smell of sweet salt and trees.
Still alone. However less cold.
He picks up his damp guitar-paddling.
